Hard Satisfiable Clause Sets for Benchmarking Equivalence Reasoning Techniques
نویسندگان
چکیده
A family of satisfiable benchmark instances in conjunctive normal form is introduced. The instances are constructed by transforming a random regular graph into a system of linear equations followed by clausification. Schemes for introducing nonlinearity to the instances are developed, making the instances suitable for benchmarking solvers with equivalence reasoning techniques. An extensive experimental evaluation shows that state-ofthe-art solvers scale exponentially in the instance size. Compared with other well-known families of satisfiable benchmark instances, the present instances are among the hardest.

متن کاملIntegrating Equivalency Reasoning into Davis-Putnam Procedure
Equivalency clauses (Xors or modulo 2 arithmetics) represent a common structure in the SAT-encoding of many hard real-world problems and constitute a major obstacle to DavisPutnam (DP) procedure. We propose a special look-ahead technique called equivalency reasoning to overcome the obstacle and report on the performance of an equivalency reasoning enhanced DP procedure on SAT instances containi...
متن کاملWhy almost all satisfiable k-CNF formulas are easy
Finding a satisfying assignment for a k-CNF formula (k ≥ 3), assuming such exists, is a notoriously hard problem. In this work we consider the uniform distribution over satisfiable k-CNF formulas with a linear number of clauses (clause-variable ratio greater than some constant). We rigorously analyze the structure of the space of satisfying assignments of a random formula in that distribution, ...
متن کاملA Calculus for Generating Ground Explanations
We present a modification of the superposition calculus that is meant to generate explanations why a set of clauses is satisfiable. This process is related to abductive reasoning, and the explanations generated are clauses constructed over so-called abductive constants. We prove the correctness and completeness of the calculus in the presence of redundancy elimination rules, and develop a suffi...
